Note - For this recipe, I used water kefir...Because I culture my own, it's readily available. Don't fret; it may be replaced with water, kombucha or coconut water. Water Kefir is mildly effervescent. Adding root beer extract essentially creates a "root beer soda" effect. Please don't be frustrated if you don't have some of the ingredients listed. Raw recipes are very flexible and forgiving and you may swap out almost any ingredient. It is also my goal, however, to help you expand your plant-based palate. While eliminating unhealthy processed foods, you are also expanding your culinary palette, adding healthy alternatives. Embrace the learning curve and play with some of these new items.
Directions
Add remaining ingredients and blend well, adding ice as needed to desired thickness and temperature.

When do you add the root beer extract? Is it in the Water Kefir or did I miss it in the recipe?

How many servings?
ReplyDeleteHi Linda. It depends on how big a smoothie you want. Amywhere from 3-4 servings. You'll have somewhere neween 5-6 cups of smoothie. Of course this is contingent upon how big your coconut is, banana, etc. smoothies are usually breakfast and lunch for me....so W and I will split the smoothie....Often with enough left over for a snack later.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Where do I get the root beer extract? Thanks! -David
ReplyDeleteHi David...I found it at a local spice shop..but have seen in supermarket....normally I use Medicine Flower extracts...they don't have root beer...and there is no REAL RROT BEER.....so it's not the healthiest choice...but once in a blue moon...I will use this as a treat...
