For some reason, I've only juiced parsley, and never thought to use it in a smoothie, until I was at a friend's house the other night, and she prepared one for us. It was great and super refreshing. Parsley is one of the most popular herbs and so often used for seasoning or garnish, that people overlook the amazing healing properties of this vibrant ingredient.
I try to include parsley in my diet, daily, so realizing that I could add it to my smoothie made me Rawfully happy!
Deep Cleanse Smoothie
3 cups frozen berries
2 cups water
1 cup grapes
2 bananas, frozen
3-4 beet leaves
1/2 beet, chopped
2 Tablespoons chia
2 - 3 big handfuls of parsley ( I fill the blender)
ice
sweetener, if desired
Optional: chunk of fresh ginger, chopped
Directions
Clean and remove parsley stems.
Add all ingredients, except ice to blender, and blend. (If not using high speed blender, add a few ingredients at a time and blend). May need to use tamper on VitaMix to keep this thick.
Add ice, blend and sweeten as desired.
I find this cool, clean, and refreshing!
Healing Benefits of Parlsey
Parsley has been used for over 2000 years and the healing benefits it offers should not be taken lightly.
It contains vitamins A, K, C, and the minerals iron and potassium. It helps reduce water retention and edema by acting as a natural diuretic. Parsley also helps balance blood sugar.
Parsley contains anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.Because it's a great source of folic acid which turns homocysteine into harmless molecules. High homocysteine levels threaten the blood vessels in the body. So, this little herb is also good for your heart!
Parsley is chock full of chlorophyll, a good anti-bacterial and may help keep breath fresh. Google "parsley" to learn more about the amazing benefits. The good news is...it tastes great, and in this recipe, mixes wonderfully with berries.
