Sesame - Sunflower Simplicity Smoothie

Who knew? Sunflower seed shoots are SO easy to sprout and taste FABULOUS in smoothies, giving them a sweet, nutty flavor! Try this healthy elixir to jump-start your morning. I have to add a post on sprouting these sweeties...but it truly is one of the easiest things to sprout - provided you don't have a pesky squirrel like I did, trying to eat every batch!



Sesame-Sunflower Simplicity

Ingredients:
1/2 cup almonds, soaked overnight
2 cups filtered water
1 banana, frozen
1 cup sunflower seed shoots
2 leaves kale leaves or Swiss chard leaves
3 dates, pitted and chopped
2 Tablespoons sesame tahini
3 Tablespoons chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (2 drops Medicine Flower Vanilla Extract)
2 Tablespoons cacao powder (optional)
ice cubes

Directions:
1. Blend almond and water. (you can strain the almond milk, or keep pulp in smoothie)
2. Add remaining ingredients and blend until creamy.
3. Add ice cubes to chill and thicken more.

Cacao Powder (optional)

  1. Wow..this looks yummy and a shortcut to making almond milk for the smoothie...just adding the almonds is a good idea...cashews work well too and totally disappear except for their creaminess. I am going to get some sunflower sprouts going immediately and can't wait to try this smoothie...thanks for the inspiration..;-)
