I had NO idea what I was missing!!!! Such creamy deliciousness
Yes, you can duplicate this recipe using a blender, but it will take a bit more work and determination. But since I have this "new" toy, it was time to give it a try. Basically, the blank plate takes the place of the mesh screen, and instead of separating pulp from juice...it all comes out the pulp end as this amazing soft-serve creamy goodness!
I was like a little kid, jumping for joy as I watched the pretty swirled mixture coming out of the machine and into my bowl. I sprinkled it with some hemp seed and shredded coconut. No sugar, no dairy..just plain fruit. THIS is going to be a staple as the weather gets warmer. So what did W and I have for breakfast this morning? ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What fun!!!
Ingredients:
2 frozen bananas
1/2 frozen papaya, cut into chunks
1/4 cup shredded coconut (for topping)
1 Tablespoon hemp seed (for topping)
liquid sweetener (optional - I use grade B maple syrup)
almond cream *SEE OTHER OPTIONS BELOW DIRECTIONS
Directions:
Using blank plate, press frozen fruit through juicer. If you are using a blender, cut your frozen fruit into chunks and add to blender. You may have to add some coconut water or liquid to get it to blend. If it gets too thin, pour into a casserole dish or bowl and chill. Cut in chunks and run through blender or food processor again. It's a bit of work, but still very yummy!Usually when I make ice cream in the blender, I'll add other ingredients like Sunflower Lecithin and Irish Moss Paste which emulsify the mixture. With the blank plate, it homogenizes, making the process quick and easy. It's not a necessity, but it sure is a nice addition to my kitchen. Thank you Joey G!!!! xoxox
Make almond cream - Blend 1 cup almonds to 3 cups water. If using a blank plate don't strain, otherwise, strain nut cream through a screen, cheese cloth, or nut milk bag. Sweeten with your favorite liquid sweetener. Freeze cream in silicone molds/ice cube trays. When making ice cream, alternate ingredients though juicer: frozen fruit, frozen bananas, frozen almond cream. The amounts are up to you, but this gives you a wonderful, creamy ice cream. If you don't have a juicer, follow directions below.
Note:
For those of you without a Champion Juicer, or any juicer that has a blank plate, fret not....you can have ice cream too.
Here are several options:
1- Blend the ingredients together and freeze. Run through blender or food processor.
2- Blend almond cream, frozen papaya and frozen bananas and run through an ice cream maker until perfect consistency.
3- While freezing mixture, stir every hour, until it reaches the consistency of soft serve ice cream, and serve. If it gets too hard, let it soften and bit, and serve.
4- Use a Yonanas Machine - it's inexpensive. I bought them for my daughters and they both love them!
